Ever wondered why you chose to believe the gospel and commit your life to Christ when your neighbor, who heard the same gospel, chose to reject it? Sola Gratia is the answer. One of the Bible's most compelling statements is this: "By grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is a gift of God" (Eph. 2:8).

God rescued us from His just wrath against our sins because He is by nature gracious! This quality permeates the being of God and causes Him to delight in doing good to those who deserve instead His wrath, His anger, His fury. It was that quality—and that quality alone—that prompted Him to rescue us. This is what the reformers meant when they said that salvation is Sola Gratia, or by grace alone!

We can reduce this powerful, life-changing truth to one simple sentence: salvation is entirely the work of God from beginning to end. It is a free gift of His grace. And His amazing gift includes sovereign election in eternity past, forgiveness of our sins and justification at the moment of conversion. But God's grace also provides our ongoing sanctification in this life and our glorification in the future. Salvation is solely a gift of God's grace from start to finish.

Miss this, and your Christian life will be shallow and man-centered. And if you believe you contributed to your salvation in any way, then you will be tempted to take some of the credit. And that steals from God's glory. Join us as we unpack the richness of what it means that we have been rescued by God, Sola Gratia!
